In 2015 Betatype, a materials manufacturing company, asked me to create a video for their company to explain to clients who they were, and what made them different from their competitors.

In a crowded field and with a lot of technical details to explain, they wanted the video to be attractive and clear in selling themselves.

I was tasked with creating the video from scratch to appeal not only to industry insiders, who would understand the more technical side of the field, but also to additive manufacturing novices (like myself!) who may not know some of the terms and processes.

Storyboard, animation, sound design and voiceover

I started by taking  a presentation that the founders had been using to pitch themselves, and adapted it into a coherent 90sec script that appealed to industry insiders, and relative newcomers.

I provided some key visuals based on a moodboard of illustrations and animations which the client and myself gathered.

As I filled out details of the animation, I sent versions back to the client, who sent me notes on story and pace.

Finally we arrived at a version which felt detailed enough to accurately explain the company, but user-friendly enough not to deluge potential customers with technical jargon.

I sourced music and a voiceover artist to give the video some momentum and warmth, and made final tweaks on timing to match the pace of the voice artist's delivery.

The video I delivered was gratefully received by the client, and they continued to share it with customers and clients, and in presentations as an introduction to their company.
